Ice Maker Repair

Built-in, undercounter and in-freezer ice makers: no production, hollow or cloudy cubes, and drain or water-line faults.

Undercounter ice machines are the appliance most often written off unnecessarily. Nine out of ten “dead” units we see have a scaled evaporator, a clogged drain or a failed water inlet valve – not a sealed-system failure.

When you call us about a ice maker, the first thing that happens is a real diagnosis. A technician measures, tests and reads the appliance’s own fault history before naming a part – because the difference between a $90 component and a $600 one is often a single reading, and guessing costs you both.

What the visit actually involves

You get a two-hour arrival window, not an open-ended day. The technician confirms the fault, quotes a flat price covering parts and labour, and only then opens anything up.

Roughly three quarters of ice maker repairs finish on the first visit, because the components that fail most often on this appliance already travel on the van. Anything that has to be ordered normally lands within a few business days, and we book the return slot before we leave.

Brands we repair for this appliance

Every manufacturer we service that builds this appliance type is listed further down this page – U-Line, Viking, Monogram, Thermador, GE, KitchenAid among them. Brand matters more than most people expect: a U-Line and a LG can present the identical error for entirely different reasons, and the diagnostic route is different for each.

Repair or replace?

We will give you a straight answer. The rule we use ourselves: if the repair costs more than half of a comparable new appliance and the unit is past two thirds of its expected service life, replacement is usually the better spend. Below that line – and on almost any built-in or luxury unit – repair wins comfortably. We would rather lose one job than sell you a part you should not buy.

What is your ice maker doing?

Undercounter ice machines are the appliance most often written off unnecessarily. Nine out of ten "dead" units we see have a scaled evaporator, a clogged drain or a failed water inlet valve - not a sealed-system failure.

No ice at all

Water inlet valve, a frozen supply line, or the ice-maker module itself. We confirm fill volume before condemning the module.

Small, hollow or cloudy cubes

Low water pressure at the valve, scale on the evaporator plate, or a fill tube partly frozen.

Ice tastes or smells wrong

An old filter, a stagnant supply line, or biofilm in the reservoir. Undercounter units need a descale and sanitize on a schedule.

Machine runs but never harvests

A stuck harvest solenoid, a failed thermistor, or a hot-gas valve that is not opening. This is the classic undercounter fault.

Water on the floor around the unit

Blocked condensate drain or a split water line. Undercounter units drain by gravity and are unforgiving of a flat drain run.

Ice clumps into a solid block

Slow production combined with an over-full bin, or a bin thermostat that is not shutting the cycle down.

Call or book online. Give us the brand, the model number if you have it, and what the appliance is actually doing. The more detail, the more likely the part is already on the van.

02

We diagnose it properly

A technician arrives inside a two-hour window, tests the appliance rather than guessing, and explains what failed and why in plain language.

03

You approve a fixed price

You get a flat quote before anything is opened up. Approve it and most repairs are completed the same visit, with the warranty printed on your invoice.

FAQ

ice maker repair questions

Why did my ice maker stop after I changed the filter?

An air lock in the supply line, or a filter head that did not seat and is restricting flow. It is usually a five-minute fix, and it is worth calling before assuming the module failed.

How often should an undercounter ice machine be descaled?

Every six to twelve months depending on water hardness. Scale on the evaporator is the single biggest cause of slow production and premature compressor wear.

Can you repair nugget and clear-ice machines?

Yes, including U-Line, Viking, Monogram, Thermador and Scotsman-built residential units, plus the ice systems inside built-in refrigerator columns.
